The average rent in San Francisco for a one bedroom apartment is approximately $3,590. One 25-year old man named Peter Berkowitz has reduced this cost to a low $400. Now if you don’t mind living in a smaller, more confined space, then Peter’s idea is something to consider.

Peter is a successful illustrator who decided that he didn’t want to waste all his money to pay for rent in a very expensive San Francisco. His method to counteract the expensive rent was to live in a box in his friend’s living room. The box is eight feet long and four and a half feet tall, made out of the finest plywood available from Home Depot. Living in a box may seem kind of strange but it isn’t just a plain old box. The box is big enough to fit a twin size mattress and it is full of small compartments where Peter can store his personal items like clothes and more. It also has a fold down desk, a door, a window, and even a skylight!

The box may seem small but it is big enough to accommodate all of Peter’s needs, all for only $400 a month! Not only is he helping himself, he’s also helping his roommates because now they are also paying less rent. This is a great idea for anyone who wants to enjoy the city life of San Francisco while saving money.
