Are You Going to Let Senioritis Get To YOU?

I’m pretty sure you guys have all heard of senioritis, but what exactly is it? Senioritis is a colloquial term used to describe the decreased motivation toward school displayed by students who are nearing the end of high school, college, or graduate school. Although, it is most often used in the context of high school. Most cases of senioritis tend to start after college applications. Symptoms of senioritis include: dropping grades, not doing homework, getting stoned or drunk for the first time, and reaching the bare minimum to pass the rest of the school year.

I know some of you seniors out there are suffering from this “disease” so here are some ways to avoid it!

  1. Plan Ahead

By your senior year, you are probably going to have a pretty good idea about what activities you will be involved with this year. The best tool is to keep all your activities, deadlines, for applications, papers, tests and so on in a calendar or day planner. Doing this will hopefully help you prevent unnecessary stress!

2. Don’t Get So Caught Up In College Admissions

I know senior year is real, and you are worrying about whether or not your application will be accepted or denied, but that’s not all you should think about! There is so much more to look forward to in your senior year of high school, including prom and your graduation! It is also the year you turn 18, so it’s like a new transition to maturity. Make the best of this time!

3. Colleges Can Change Their Mind!

You know even after your college acceptances…colleges can still change their mind regarding whether they still want you or not right?? If your grades suddenly slack off and fail all your classes, there is a possibility of being rescinded from your acceptance. You wouldn’t want all 4 years of hard work to all go to waste, especially after your college acceptances right? So don’t let the idea of “senioritis” get to you, and stay on top of your game!

4. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

You are so close to graduating from these 4 years of your life, so why ruin it when you are almost there? If you look at it from the point of view that you have to pass in order to graduate, it makes focusing on your grades a lot easier.
