Many of us take granted for our access to food. We can get food from the grocery stores, restaurants and supermarket. About 48 millions Americans live with some form of food security, such as the meal ticket. This means that they do not have a consistent access to food. Almost half of those people does not have access or limited access to clean, fresh, healthy food. Another reason could be because they could not afford the food even when it is easy to access. Many affordable foods are mostly fast foods and processed foods. Fast foods can cause obesity, diabetes, depression and nutrient deficiencies. Processed foods such as chips, cookies and soft drinks also cause the same effects. Most of these foods contains large amounts of fats, sugars and sodium.

“ They observed that 49 million Americans lacked access to adequate food. Food pantries, such as the one at Christ Church, are in high demand during the current deep recession. We have seen lines of people 50 meters long and three across, with people waiting more than an hour for food.” — Michael Greenberg, Gwendolyn Greenberg, Lauren Mazza

Like most of the Asian family, my family likes to save money on the little things like food. When it comes to picking a bag of potato chip and a more expensive, healthier bag of sweet potato chips, we always pick the potato chip. The reason is that because it is cheaper even when the other oneis more healthier.

One of the solution to this problem is having more food bank for people to get food.
