2 Bananas Give You Energy for a 90-Minute Workout. Myth or reality?
After a long day at work, I went on YouTube and the first video I saw was about an idea that has been widely circulated in recent days, namely that two bananas provide you with the energy you need for an intense 90-minute workout.
Let’s start with a calorie analysis. If we take two medium-sized bananas, they provide about 200 kcal, while an intense 90-minute workout consumes between 800 and 1000 kcal, so eating two bananas will only supplement part of the energy consumption for an intense workout.
What I find true in this statement is that bananas contain simple sugars and fibre, which give you a short- and medium-term energy boost to complete an intense workout. In addition, they also contain vitamin B6, which is involved in metabolism, but the claim that two bananas can sustain a 90-minute workout is extremely exaggerated.
In the case of a 90-minute workout, the body will also draw on its glycogen reserves, as two bananas are not enough to sustain the effort.
So, from my point of view, the statement is just a myth, but I recommend eating a banana before training for the energy it provides.
What do you think? Is eating two bananas to provide the energy needed for a 90-minute workout a myth or reality?
