As a Haitian-Canadian of Christian faith deeply (IRL I’m not that deeply, but whatever lol) immersed in the world of words, I often contemplate the concept of belief. Belief (some people call it purpose), fundamentally, transcends individuality and ego, reaching into the divine, cosmic, or simply put, something greater than ourselves.

For me, that something greater is God. Growing up in a Haitian-Christian household, faith was primarily a Sunday ritual. Since my spiritual awakening, it’s a vibrant thread woven into the fabric of daily life — heard in whispered prayers of family members, sung joyously in church hymns, and found in quiet moments (not too often, lol — as I am afraid to be in my head) of personal reflection. Yet, as I embarked on my journey as a writer and individual, belief took on new dimensions.

Writing, like faith, is an act of surrender — a practice requiring humility, a willingness to be vulnerable, to explore the depths of human experience, and to confront both the light and shadows within ourselves and our societies…
