Medium in Decline? What Next if Current Trends Continue
There are already 2 months in which Medium revenues have dropped dramatically, starting from 0.1$/read in November and now reaching about 0.01$/read in February.
In this article I’ll tell you my opinion about what will happen with Medium if the trend will continue in the coming months.
Unfortunately every writer who puts in an hour or maybe even more to write an article will not accept to be treated with 0.01$/read for a quality article.
So what will happen is that all of these writers will choose to quit or leave for other platforms where they feel they are appreciated.
In the long run this means that the quality of the articles will go down, and very many who now pay a monthly subscription on Medium to be able to read the articles will quit, as it happened in December when many writers, including myself, quit Friend of Medium to become Member only.
If in the near future the number of those who pay Member will decrease due to lack of appreciation, the revenue will decrease even more, creating a bulge of decline.
Not much changed in January compared to the end of December in terms of EPR, and February started as weak as January. If things continue like this I expect more and more people to leave for other platforms so the…
