You might have heard the famous proverb, "It is impossible to please everybody!" This proverb highlights the importance of leaving people-pleasing attitude because you cannot please everybody.

The Limits of People-Pleasing:

As an administrator working with 8-10 people, I tried my best to keep them happy. I paid their salaries on time, maintained flexible working hours, and allowed casual leave whenever they wanted. However, I was surprised when two workers asked for a salary on the 25th of every month, which was an unreasonable demand. I realized that people-pleasing behavior has its limits, and there comes a time when you have to say "no" to prioritize your own happiness.

The Consequences of Unconditional People-Pleasing:

Trying to please others at the expense of your own happiness can lead to stress and burnout. You may fulfill one desire, but another will take its place. It's essential to prioritize your happiness and recognize that you can't make everyone happy.

The Universality of Unhappiness in Relationships:

This phenomenon is not unique to workplace relationships. In husband-wife relationships, it's common for one partner to be unhappy with the other, despite efforts to please each other. The wife is often the least impressed by her husband, even if he can impress other women easily. If you're facing a similar situation, know that you're not alone – it's a common problem for almost every couple worldwide.

The Pre-Marriage Illusion:

Before marriage, it's possible to impress your partner, but after marriage, it's impossible to please them. Recognize that relationships involve two individuals with different needs and desires, and it's essential to prioritize your own happiness and well-being.

Final Thoughts:

People-pleasing behavior has its limits, and it’s crucial to prioritize your happiness. Recognize that you can’t make everyone happy, and it’s okay to say "no" to unreasonable demands. By prioritizing your happiness, you’ll avoid stress and burnout, and cultivate healthier relationships.
