The purpose of the medium of film is not only to entertain, but also to shed a critical light on one issue or another. At its best, cinema provides good entertainment and makes the viewer think.

The Purge is probably one such movie that has set itself this goal. Does it succeed? We take a look.

The plot

It is the year 2021 and America has been transformed into a new system by the mysterious new Founding Fathers. The crime rate is at an all-time low. The reason for this is the annual Purge, a night when all crime, including murder, is completely legal for 12 hours. On this night, every American is supposed to be able to release their pent-up anger and aggression.
