Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968)

There you are lying on your deathbed, barely able to move, reflecting on what your life was. You ask what you did with the time and resources you were lucky to have, what story will be told when you’re gone and what legacy you left behind. A spirit within confesses and cries that it wished they could have seen more, accomplished, loved and lived more. The days are ticking scarily before you realise it…Death arrives.

Presently, you can be deemed as fortunate compared to the millions who passed away, parts of them in the grave wishing they had followed their dreams. Here we are today with so many opportunities, yet so little in quantities of big dreamers and risk-takers that make you wonder how comfortable we have gotten with our lives. Can we be certain we will always get another chance tomorrow?

To those who feel unfulfilled and lost, the options narrow themselves into one: to seek an alternative and desired reality you want to live in. This does not exclude everything in life comes at a cost because it does. Consider what you are willing to pay for in exchange for your life.

We must think differently from our old behaviours and question how we want our future selves to evolve. Questions that go along the lines of, who would like to be in a week, month and year from now, and what actions to reach that goal? You must dabble with trial and error, good and bad experiences because it will impact your approaches to relationships, finances, self-confidence, and learning.

By strategising who you foresee to be, you have a lot more authority in what you regularly do and why you do it.

You have unlimited potential, with the mind being the most potent gift to mankind to absorb knowledge, develop character and experience emotions. Only some discover their mind’s capabilities and most never attempt to fulfil that role. I mean pouring their heart and soul into their work regardless of the time, environment or doubts they had.

As the years pass, you can rejoice in how far you’ve come even if there were numerous hardships in the midst of it all. My question for the person reading this is, “Why can’t it be you?”

Be willing to sacrifice, commit and dedicate who you are to what you are destined to be in this world and make an impact whilst you can, on a macro or micro scale, you cannot forget that you have been chosen to live again today, while millions of others were not.

Some will say, “I was unaware of what to do” but my response is you have not discovered who you are. To reach a destination, you have to travel the distance. I will reiterate, “You only reach real success after you have done what it takes to get there.”

Your life is special because you can transform it into something you are proud of. Go and accomplish amazing things with dedication, and leap outside your comfort zone despite fear because anyone can be a better version of themselves — even you. Success isn’t about a renowned achievement. It can be about personal growth, helping others, or simply living a life true to who you are.

However, this solely occurs if you are willing to take action and stop waiting for the perfect day to arrive since it is never coming.

As the great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

Will you take your first step today?

Memories and poetry are my niche. Maybe add advice to the list as well.
