Why I Decided to Cancel My Medium Membership
Balancing Passion and Practicality in My Writing Journey
Hey my dear fellow readers and writers. As a writer, I’ve always been drawn to platforms that allow me to share my thoughts, stories, and experiences with a broad audience. Medium has been one such wonderful platform for me due to its sleek design, vibrant community, and the great potential to reach readers worldwide. It’s an attractive space to publish my work. However, recently, I found myself questioning whether my Medium membership was worth the cost. Here’s why I decided to cancel it.
Medium Partner Program
The Medium Partner Program isn’t available in my country India. For those unfamiliar, this Program is Medium’s great initiative that allows writers to earn money based on the engagement their stories receive from paying members. Without access to this program, the financial incentives for maintaining a membership are nonexistent for me. I joined Medium because I love writing, not necessarily for the money, but knowing that the option to earn isn’t available in my country made me rethink the value I was getting from my membership.
A great Perk
As a reader, I initially subscribed to read and draw inspiration from others, this seemed like a great perk. However, over time, I realized that I wasn’t taking full advantage of this benefit. My reading list kept growing, but my free time didn’t. With a busy schedule, I found myself consuming less content than I anticipated. Paying for something I rarely used started to feel unjustifiable.
My Own Financial Issue
I love the initiative membership to support other writers. By paying for a membership, I knew I was helping to fund the work of writers I enjoyed reading. However, with my own financial issues, I needed to prioritize my spending. As much as I wanted to support fellow writers , I had to be realistic about my budget and cut unnecessary expenses.
My Passion
Writing on Medium remains to connect with readers worldwide, and the opportunity to improve my writing skills. The good news is that I can continue to publish my stories without a membership. The core functionality that drew me to Medium in the first place – the ability to share my voice – is still available for free.
Conclusion
In conclusion, canceling my Medium membership was a decision to manage my budget better. While I’ll miss the extra perks, I’m confident that I can still thrive as a best writer on Medium without them.
