International Women’s Day: Meet Phoebe

What motivates you every day?

I believe that every decision I make ultimately makes a difference in the scheme of things; whether it is in my personal or professional life. I also hold the belief that there is more to be learned, to be seen and to be done. So every day, I start my day with the intention and goal to know one more thing.

How does a typical day look like for you in the office?

As the Head of operations, I am responsible for the operational efficiency at M-Shule. This means having systems and processes in place to ensure that different functions of the organization are not only well coordinated but also highly productive and meeting their goals.

I also handle the HR function and ensure that in our operations, we nurture a company culture that encourages morale, growth, performance and profitability of M-Shule as well as efficacy of its team members

What are some of your interests outside of work?

I love travelling! One of my favourite sayings is by Mark Twain and it is something along the lines “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime”.

The theme for IWD is “an equal world is an enabled world” how does that intertwine with your work at M-Shule?

I am fortunate to experience an equal and enabled world at M-Shule, as three of the four executive and senior level management positions are held by women. While this is impressive, it is unfortunate that it is far from the norm. We cultivate and encourage an environment that not only promotes peer to peer support but mentorship through the ranks. Through our products, we have courses that will ultimately empower women by improving their financial literacy and leadership skills, leading to economic empowerment.

What is your inspiration behind working at M-Shule?

The products that we develop at M-Shule are life changing. Whether it is tutoring for the students, training for refugees and healthcare workers; our product and solutions lead to improved performance, better outcomes and increased confidence.
