Cassie Bernall

Back in 1999, April 20th, a tragic shooting took place at Columbine High School. 13 people were killed, and 21 injured. The gunman, Eric Harris, asked one of his victims, Cassie Bernall a question, before deciding whether or not to pull the trigger.

Do you believe in god?

Her reply, well, it was “Yes”. And it cost her her life.

Now, my beliefs are fairly agnostic. I have no problem with people believing what they want. At all.

But you know, what I struggle to believe, more than anything, is that last week, on the 1st October 2015, a gunman, Christopher Harper-Mercer, walked in to a school, Umpqua Community College, and reportedly asked some of his victims if they were Christians, before pulling the trigger if they answered “yes”.

How, in 16 years, have gun laws not changed to prevent this from happening….

More so, the unanswerable question….why is someones belief the decider on whether they live or die?

A band I like, Flyleaf, wrote a song about Cassie Bernall, after the 1999 shootings. Remember, when asked if she believed in god, she answered “yes”.

The answer cost her her life.

If you do one thing today, take a listen to this song, and spare a thought for those people who have lost their lives during these shootings.

Something has to change.
