Armand Jacques is a rising senior at Orange High School with great interests in basketball and creative writing.

He plays the point guard position on his high school basketball team and considers all sports to be his passion. He describes sports as an integral aspect of Orange High School’s culture and his own life.

In his free time, Jacques finds solace in writing in his composition notebook.

“Writing is basically talking to yourself. Speaking to yourself can help you deal with things,” he said.

He considers himself especially proficient in writing stories about relationships and this very vigor for writing brought him to the Montclair State University Summer Journalism Workshop.

Jacques is a founding member of the group Boys to Men in which he mentors underclassmen of his high school. Boys to Men teaches its members about the importance of being a ‘good’ person and the school-to-prison pipeline.

When asked about his general interests, he responded that he likes fashion and “likes to look good”. Fashion aside, Jacques hopes to pursue a future in the sports industry. Jacques actually wishes to one day become an executive at international sportswear providers such as Nike and Adidas.
