Moving isn’t always as fun as you would think

Teenager excels despite moving from the United States to Peru a few times.

After living in the United States for 8 years, Gianella Diaz and her immediate family yearned to be closer to her extended family in Peru. Abruptly, they made the decision to leave the country in 2011.

“It was literally an impulsive decision,” Diaz said. “We had like one morning we all woke up and decided that we should move to be closer to family.”

Not many people make decisions like this, but for Diaz, it was important for her family to have that opportunity.

She eventually moved from Peru back to the United States when she was 10 years old because she was going into middle school and her mom felt that the U.S had a better education system.

Although she wanted to stay in Peru, it was emotionally tough on Diaz and being able to move back to the States was really good for her because she had a lot of friends here.

Being able to get back to her friends meant that she was closer to the life she had when she was younger.

Diaz has three other siblings who she relies on to back her up in different situations that may be hard or a little more difficult to handle.

Going through these situations and moving back and forth a lot has shaped her into the person she is today.

“These situations made me understand what is important in life,” Diaz said.

These situations are hard for someone to conceive at any age, let alone being as young as 8 to 10 years old.

She also had to really start focusing on her school work because she knew that it would be an important factor when it came to her future. Doing things post high school, like getting a job, would help her excel in the future.

In Diaz’s free time she likes to play volleyball with her friends. She also likes to hang out with her friends while not playing volleyball.

“Playing volleyball with my friends allows me to escape from other things,” Diaz said.

She also hangs out with her family who mean so much to her. She is closest with them and loves to be around them. Her family is the group that motivates her and the people that made her the person she is today.
