The Female Version of Jorge Ramos

High School student Martha Nestor’s goal is to become the female version of Jorge Ramos, a well-known Mexican-American journalist.

Nestor, who identifies as Mexican-American, sees herself in Ramos. Like him, she takes risks and will do anything to uncover the truth.

“[Jorge Ramos] goes all his way to go investigate and figure out the trouble that people are covering up,” she said of the Univision reporter.

Born September 28, 2001, Nestor is the middle child in a Mexican household that watches television news daily. Nestor describes herself as someone that is talkative, energetic and friendly.

Nestor believes that she and Ramos share a great ambition and an attitude for achievements.

“Being able to not stay silent when there is something going on is very important to me ,” she said.

Nestor hopes to have many accomplishments like Ramos, including the various Emmys that he has won in the past, the News & Documentary award for outstanding investigative journalism in Spanish.

Aside from that, Nestor hopes to have her own achievements and be able to one day win a prize for journalism to make her family proud.

She plans to pursue college and a career in the media industry. She also wants to cover current events and social justice related issues, like natural disasters and the ME TOO movement.

“If Jorge Ramos could be as successful, bold, and brave as he is , so can I,’’ she said.

Nestor believes that with hard work, dedication and self confidence people can achieve many extraordinary things.

“Anyone can be Jorge Ramos.’’
