1. Young Dumb & Broke — Khalid

Why it’s hot

Ahhh high school. This song does a fantastic job of capturing the care-free lifestyle of teens completing their last years of high school and moving on to the real world. Khalid creates lyrics that are easily related to by high schoolers and college students alike. The talk of being “young , dumb, and broke” is still very relevant in the world of college but, these lyrics can also hit a soft spot causing one to miss those sweet days of high school. The catchy melody will have this song stuck in your head for days and missing the old friends you left behind.

Why it’s hot

The twangy tone of the music gives the song an up-lifting and happy mood that plays into the meaning of the lyrics. Due to MTSU being located roughly 37 miles from the “Country Music Capital of the World”, Nashville, this new song is continuously playing on the local radio stations. Chances are, you’ll hear it at least once on your way to class, and have flashbacks to those long nights under the stars.

Why it’s hot

The smooth beat of this track will have you dancing in no time. Because Miguel is a R&B artist, it’s not surprise that his music would have a relaxing but need-to-dance feel to it. The lyrics promote living life to the fullest and enjoying the ride. These are words that most college students live by and can relate to on a personal level. Unfortunately, most of this life living happens when they should be writing papers or studying for a test.

We’ve all been there. That person you really like breaks up with you and when you’re finally start to doing better, they come back around. This is another song that encourages you to live while you are young and give life everything you’ve got. The lyrics really hit home, but also make you smile at the same time.

Make sure you are keeping an eye on this guy, because he is here to stay.
