13 Reasons Why Students Might Fail Their Exams

As exam week approaches, here are 13 of the most binge-able shows on Netflix that might be the reason some MTSU Freshman fail their exams.

  1. Stranger Things

A huge success since its release in 2016, Stranger Things is horror-science fiction mash-up set in the 1980s. The creators of the show drew inspiration from 80s pop-culture and the works of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King among many 1980s genre films. The first season follows the centers around the strange disappearance of young boy in the fictional small-town of Hawkins, Indiana. The second season aired on Netflix earlier this year, with a third season set to release in 2018.

2. The Office

This award-winning documentary-style series follows Michael Scott (Steve Carrel), regional manager of Dunder Mifflin paper company, and his employees. The Office captures the obstacles and sometimes ridiculousness of nine-to-five life. This show first aired in 2013 on NBC, and all nine seasons can now be found on Netflix.

3. Orange is the New Black

Another Netflix original, this critically acclaimed gritty comedy-drama series has won multiple Emmys since airing in 2013. Orange is The New Black follows thirty-something Piper Chapman, who is forced to leave behind suburban life after being sentenced to fifteen months in women’s penitentiary for aiding an international drug-smuggler. The series also revolves around other inmates and prison guards at Litchfield Penitentiary. There are currently five seasons on Netflix, with a sixth season set to release next year.

4. Parks and Recreation

This hilarious political mockumentary received mixed reviews after first premiering in 2009. By the second season, however, the satire received wide critic acclamation. Parks and Recreation follows Leslie Knope, a devoted low-level government employee in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. All seven seasons of the show can be found on Netflix.

5. The Get Down

This highly underrated musical-drama series hasn’t garnered as much popularity as other Netflix originals. The Get Down follows a group of five teenagers living the South Bronx in 1970s, focusing on both the rise of hip-hop and racial tensions of the period. There is only season on Netflix, and it is not likely to get renewed for a second season.

6. Narcos

This biographical crime-drama is based the true story of Columbian drug-lord Pablo Escobar, following Escobar’s rise to becoming one of history’s wealthiest criminals. Since its release in 2015, Narcos has remained one of Netflix’s most popular series. There are currently three seasons on Netflix, and the show has been renewed for a fourth season.

7. Ozark

Another crime-drama, this Netflix original series follows Marty Byrde, a financial advisor who relocates his family to the Missouri Ozarks after his relations with a drug cartel go sour. Ozark premiered on Netflix in 2017, and a second season is expected in 2018.

8. The Good Place

This fantasy comedy first premiered on NBC in 2016, receiving positive ratings from television critics. The Good Place follows Eleanor Shellstrop, who wakes up in the “Good Place” after being run-over by a truck. Only problem: she’s not who they think she is. The first season can currently be found on Netflix.

9. Mindhunter

This eerie crime-drama is based on true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. The series follows two FBI agents who interview serial killers in order to understand the field of criminal psychology. The series is set in the 1970s, and is based on actual interviews with actual serial killers. Mindhunter premiered on Netflix in 2017, and has since then been renewed for a second season.

10. Breaking Bad

Another crime-drama, Breaking Bad has received wide-spread critical acclaim and continues to be one of the most watched shows on Netflix. The series follows high-school chemistry teacher Walter White, whose recent cancer diagnoses leads him to a life of crime. White, along with former student, begins to produce and sell crystal meth in order to secure his family’s financial well-being after his passing. Breaking Bad premiered on AMC in 2008, and all five seasons of the show can now be found on Netflix.

11. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This hilarious sit-com has been widely acclaimed by critics since its premiere in 2015. This series follows 29-year-old Kimmy Schmidt after she is rescued from a doomsday cult. After being held in a bunker for fifteen years, Kimmy must restart her life alone in New York City. There are currently three seasons on Netflix, and the series has been renewed for a fourth season.

12. 13 Reasons Why

This drama-mystery series is based on the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and has received critical acclaim since its premiere in 2017. The series follows high school student Clay Jenson, who receives a box of cassette recorded by recently deceased classmate Hannah Baker. In thirteen tapes, Hannah details thirteen reasons that led to her suicide. There has been controversy around the show’s graphic portrayals of suicide, rape, and other mature content. There is currently one season on Netflix, with a second season set to air in 2018.

13. Friends

All ten seasons are on Netflix. Just do it.
