Every Decision I Make Is About LEGACY.
I’ve had to make some very tough business decisions lately. I say “tough” because they were emotionally draining, but the actual decisions I’ve made were easy. When your business partners’ definition of the word INTEGRITY is different than mine, and I come to the realization that no matter what I say or do, they will not respect my contract, it’s time to part ways.
Every decision I make in my business is based off of my legacy. How will I be remembered when the history books are written, and how will name be spoken of? Will I be remembered as a man of my word, or as a man who does contrary to what he says? Will people speak my name in terms of honor or disgrace?
Successful people understand that the ultimate goal of business is to make themselves invaluable to a community. I want to be the most valuable part of my business partners’ lives. Legacy means to me not that people like me or love me, but that they respect the fact that I am a man of my word.
People can doubt what you say, but they MUST BELIEVE what you do.
At the end of my career, I will go down as the greatest of all time. No mistake about that. So the hard decisions I’m making now have to reflect that goal. I want the best possible team around me, and I don’t want to compete in the marketplace. I want to dominate, and leave a legacy of excellence and integrity. If I can’t do that, I quit.
