Bon-sai Garden
Chinese food, as served in Germany (chunks of meat and a very un-chinese selection of vegetables, topped with ever the same, oily brown sauce), is to no wonder dying out. Tucked away in quiet suburbia, the defiant Bon-Sai Garden nonetheless enjoys constant visits by streams of very varied, regular customers who come from all over town. All guests most likely value the “rare stunt” of “combining Europeans-pleasing Chinese dishes with fresh, good quality ingredients” while the “good value, comfort food” proposition of old-school Sino-German eateries is maintained. Owner Wai Hung Tsang and his family regularly add a few “more authentic dishes from Guangdong and Sichuan cuisines” to the spring rolls and actually crispy duck dishes. And if you know what to ask for, they “might even prepare an authentic off-menue item for you”. Regarding ambiance: Whilst the “as-Europeans-imagine-Chinese-decor” kitch is thankfully mostly absent, “don’t expect too much in terms of style or atmosphere”. The room is light and comfortable, “yet the carpets and upholstery are simply a bad choice”. There’s a rather large garden available during the Munich summer.
