Excel 2019, has returned once again with the much-awaited vigour and excitement. As it becomes time for this wonderful techno-managerial symposium to unwind, the Govt. Model Engineering College and the MEC MUNSoc proudly presents the third edition of MECMUN 2019, as a kick-off to Excel 2019. Scheduled to be conducted on the 5th and 6th of October at the IMA Hall, Kaloor, Kochi what lays in wait for you is a diplomatic extravaganza wherein you get a chance to set the floor on fire!

If you aren’t sure of what a MUN is, expanded as Model United Nations, it is a simulation of the original UN sessions, helping young diplomats develop their skills in negotiation and debate. Apart from that, it provides a venue to meet people and socialize, at the same time creating everlasting bonds and sweet memories.

This year, MECMUN is back with 4 committees which include the UNGA DISEC (United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee), UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council), AIPPM (All India Political Party Meet) and IP (International Press). The agendas are no less interesting. As the DISEC discusses on the ‘Prevention of transnational organized crimes with special emphasis on illicit arms trade and human trafficking’, the AIPPM calls upon strong debators to fire up the sessions by analysing ‘The present situation in Kashmir with special emphasis on improving the social and economic conditions’. Personally speaking, I do have a soft corner to the AIPPM after the IntraMUN, since your hopes of seeing some fiery discussions would never be put down! The difference is that you represent people from Indian Politics rather than countries, in the AIPPM. Cool, isn’t it?

The Human Rights Council has decided to focus on ‘The role of UN with respect to the protection of the internally displaced persons in war zones’ while the International Press will support budding journalists and photographers by sharpening and fine-tuning their skills. The best part of being in the IP is that you get to roast the delegates based on what they have said and what you have found. It sure is interesting to see your own statements backfire ;D

It would be wrong on my part if I do not mention about our talented EB members. Skilled orators with experience of years in MUNning, they are here to polish your abilities and skills so as to prepare you for the best. We have Anagh, Gautham Lakshman Arun and Anand Raj in the UNHRC, Rohit Santhosh, Kavith Vishwanath, and myself, Ema Arun for AIPPM, Safal Tom, Nakul Pramod and Rose Binoy Mechery for DISEC as the Chairs, Vice chairs and Directors respectively and last but not the least, we have Aaron Thomas and Seethal A D for the IP as the Head of Photography and Journalism, respectively.

The MECMUN has got collaborations with various prominent MUNs across South India such as the CUSAT MUN, MACE MUN, RU MUN, ChristMUN, etc. The registrations have been opened and allotments are taking place in full swing. Why wait? Register quick! For more details, visit www.mecmun.excelmec.org
