Delegating Pion Nodes
Expanding the network & simplifying node operation for all $PION holders
Over the last two months, we have been preparing for the anticipated feature of node delegation, first announced in an article on July 5. The wait is over and delegation for Pion nodes is enabled. Keep reading for the details.
Lower Costs & Effort through Delegation
Up until now, only node operators have earned rewards by running a node, however, some low-tier operators do not hold sufficient bonPION to cover their VPS costs. With node delegation enabled, all PION/BonPION holders — even those who do not want to run a node for whatever reason — can receive rewards without paying for a VPS. The following will particularly benefit from delegation.
- Non-tech users who might face challenges running their own nodes
- Users who do not have enough PION/bonPION to run a single node or to pay for the expenses of their current nodes
- New users
How to Delegate
Delegation is enabled in two phases. In the first phase starting on September 6th, only the Muon team can run delegated nodes, while in the second stage, some whitelisted operators will be allowed to run delegated nodes.
In the 1st phase, the Muon team will stake delegators’ tokens and run one or more nodes in return for 10% of the rewards as a fee. Each delegator can decide to either automatically re-stake the reward and boost their node power (currently 3X) or receive it in their staker wallets. The rewards will be distributed automatically once per 2 weeks.
Note that collecting applications for node delegation starts on Aug 30, but the team node for delegators will start running on September 6th.
The details and requirements for the second phase depend on the feedback from the first and will be announced later.
