Pion’s launch plan has already been announced: the claiming of bonPION starting on October 14th and full network launch on the 18th. This article provides important information about the node tiers, the node-drop, rewards and uniqueness verification.

Eligible Users for the Node-Drop

Before displaying information about node tiers, let’s review briefly who will be getting the bonPION node-drops on October 14th.

$MUON holders: All those who bought MUON in the private sale/pre-sale will get the node-drop of bonPION to run nodes with. To show our appreciation for their patience and commitment for the last several months (at least 15 months), they are given 5 bonPIONs for every dollar of MUON they hold.

ALICE Node Operators: These people will receive the minimum amount of bonPION to run a tier 1 node — 500 bonPIONs — for the first phase of ALICE and 20% extra for every month of participation after that. See the details in the FAQ: ALICE Rewards.

It is worth mentioning that the listing price for each $PION is 1 USD.

We have planned the four-day interval between the first and second phases of the launch so that eligible users can tell our support team if there are any irregularities in their node-drops or face any difficulties in claiming.

Malicious Actors Discovered

As mentioned in our UV article, the main purpose of uniqueness verification is the equitable allotment of power by preventing the creation of multiple fake identities. To ensure the fair distribution of rewards on Pion, our tech team has studied the data on uniqueness verification for months and discovered the malicious actors who tried to get higher rewards by running multiple nodes. These are blacklisted and will not be able to claim any bonPION. By doing this, the amount of rewards for honest operators will increase substantially. In the coming days, we will reveal more information on how our team accomplished this task.

Node Tiers

Categorizing nodes into tiers is a security measure. Nodes with higher tiers need to have staked a higher amount and have passed a stricter verification method. In return, they have a higher share of a subnet and a higher chance of being selected in subnets. (Learn more about Rotating Random Subnets.) In fact, a higher-level node exercises a stronger influence in the network and earns more rewards.

Pion nodes are categorized into four tiers based on the amount of their bonPION and verification level. See the following table for details.

** Note that $MUON holders (private sale/pre-sale participants) were verified at the time of sale and do not need to go through the verification process for tiers 2 & 3 again.**

The amount of bonPION a node holds is called its “Node Power”. The reward for each node is in a linear proportion with its node power.

Although claiming the node-drop will start today (October 14th), tiers — and consequently, rewards — will not be activated until the full launch of the network and its token on the 18th.

At the launch, only tiers 1 will be active and higher tiers will not be accessible. Tier 2 will be active soon after the launch but the dates of activation for other tiers will be announced in a few weeks.

Thus all the original Pion node operators (bonPION holders) will automatically be granted tier 1 at launch. When tier2 is accessible, MUON holders holding over 5,000 bonPIONs can go through the required verification and upgrade their nodes to tier 2. Others willing to be promoted to tier 2 should first enlarge their bonPION and then pass the required verification. Muon Network

Muon is a chain-independant and stateless DON (Decentralized Oracle Network) that enables dApps to make their off-chain components decentralized. By incorporating Muon, the manner in which decentralized applications store, process, and access data will be fundamentally transformed, redefining the landscape of decentralized systems.
