Where Is Leila Cavett?

On the morning of Sunday, July 26th, the Miramar Police Department in Miramar, Florida appealed to the public for help identifying a toddler. The little boy wasn’t wearing shoes or socks and was found around 8:30 am, wandering alone in a dirty diaper, in an apartment complex.
After the story started to spread on social media the little boy’s mom was soon identified as Leila Cavett. Leila’s family members began to comment on Facebook posts and identified the curly haired little boy as Kamdyn. They said that Leila and Kamdyn lived in Georgia and they were worried that someone had kidnapped the 2 because there was no reason for them to be in Florida. Attempts to contact Leila by cell phone were not successful and her grandmother was the last one to hear from her, through Facebook messenger.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office in Lafayette, Georgia, also appealed to the public, asking for anyone that had seen or heard from Leila to contact them. On Monday evening, the Miramar Police Department announced that they had found Leila’s white pickup truck and that the Hollywood, Florida Police Department would be taking over, because her truck was found in Hollywood.
Law Enforcement determined that Leila’s white pick up truck was last seen on July 27th in a Walmart parking lot in Hollywood, Florida. They set up surveillance on the vehicle and on Tuesday, July 28th, a man named Shannon Ryan approached the truck with the keys. When they interviewed Ryan, he said that Leila came to Florida to sell him her truck for $3000 and she left him around 2:30 am on July 26th, when she and her son got into a car with a couple of unknown black men.
When law enforcement reviewed surveillance footage, Ryan’s story began to unravel like a cheap sweater. Little by little, the pieces of the puzzle have started to fall into place. Although the full story has still not been told, there’s already a sinking feeling in my heart after reading the criminal complaint.
Surveillance footage from the area where Kamdyn had been found wandering showed Ryan’s gold Lexus right in front of the apartment complex, just minutes before the littlle boy was found. The police then found that Ryan had been using Leila’s debit card and had made some disturbing purchases at Walmart.
All these things and more, which Fancy will discuss in her True Crime Tidbits live, led to U.S. Marshalls arresting Shannon Ryan on Saturday, August 15th, 2020. He’s been charged with kidnapping Kamdyn and lying to a federal officer but has not been charged in Leila’s disappearance at this time. He’s being held without bond at the Broward County Jail.
This is a developing story and we will keep you updated with further details. In the mean time, check out our other true crime cases on Youtube at Murder by Design and head on over to our podcast The Good Wives Guide To True Crime.
