Another of those wonderful crappy toys that didn’t (quite) fit the character. Although I could see a wrist radio being used in a Batman story…

…Even if wrist radios was more a Dick Tracy thing.

Now Marvel’s Avengers are all well and good with Captain America, Ironman, etc. But to me there is only one set of Avengers.

The 1960s adventure series made in the UK (until those last episodes of The New Avengers in the 70s that were made in Canada). John Steed and his various partners would solve the weird and the wonderful crime of the week and usually uncover a conspiracy against the country. Quirky thanks to a not-too-clear on detail when it came to the department they worked for and set in a Britain that was strangely bereft of population, Steed and Mrs Gale, Emma Peel and then Tara King would protect Queen and Country.

Over the top and, when TV went colour, a glorious rainbow of design in wardrobe and sets, the scripts and stories were a joy to watch. With perfect casting the show manages to evoke the 60s yet also remains timeless.

There was and is nothing else like it. Not before, during or after….
