Yes, this App is free, visually adorable, functionally powerful yet without any, not even hidden, costs or ads.
Museo helps you navigate nearby museums close to you all in one-App, available in cities such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago. It also has a star feature, “For You”, that recommends museums that you might like based on our data. Besides all that, you may save and favorite any exhibitions you like for later visits.
This is an App created by students at Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, Cornell, and The Art Institute of Chicago. Our intention is to “rescue” galleries and museums, which are in danger of closing down due to lack of visibility during covid times, by connecting art consumers to museums directly through a one-stop App. As many restaurants survived the pandemic due to the help of food delivery apps (e.g. ubereats, doordash, grubhub etc.), many museums and galleries didn’t have the fortune to survive due to lack of such App. However, many of the exhibitions shouldn’t have been gone permanently if the art lovers had the information. Museo.to, our App is therefore here to help.
With a love for art and a heart to help the art lovers to continue to enjoy consistent arts, to help the museums to survive a difficult era and to help create an art-friendly ecosystem with technology, Museo.to’s team conducted extensive research in the art consumption field, a group of designers and engineers from MIT and Carnegie Mellon University spent the past 2 years to develop and polish this App (check here for our research if you are interested). Now, Museo.to has made great progress from its initial settings. Since we embarked on Museo, we have undergone over 5 rounds of iterations based on feedback from visitors and museums, and shipped to the App store.
Now, it is seeking your support by simply downloading and becoming our active users at no costs!
Our star feature “For You” (an exhibition recommendation system) is built based on collaborative filtering, a machine learning algorithm that recommends museums and exhibitions liked by users similar to you. That means, for this algorithm to function and for our star feature to work, we need many, MANY, as many as possible users!
Note that, Museo.to is the first ever App that applies both a Tinder “liking and swiping” user interface and a collaborative filtering on museum recommendations. Therefore, by downloading, you are not only enjoying an impressive ad-free App that helps you navigate museums, but are also contributing to a lab product that is bringing unprecendented applications of advanced technology to the arts.
