How Do You Love?

The curtains at the Fonda Theatre finally open up to reveal the cover art to their latest album, “How Do You Love?.” Before the members emerge onstage, the set kicks off with the opening lines of the into track, “Are you in love? / Do you feel it in your stomach? / Does it twist and turn and scream and burn/ And start to make you cry, but you like it?..” Lydia Night takes the stage followed by Drew Thomsen, Genessa Gariano, and Brooke Dickson. Together they make up LA’s very own punk rock experts, The Regrettes. Los Angeles was the second stop to kick off tour following the first San Diego show.

The crowd is filled with excitement as soon as the band starts playing “California Friends,” an appropriate title for LA fans which were given the opportunity to attend an afterparty with the band on the venue’s rooftop. The performance the band gives is charged with love as they transcend between powerful garage rock feel-good songs such as “Seashore” to more heart-wrenching ones like “Coloring Book” and “Pumpkin,” my personal favorite. “I used to think that Romeo was full of shit / But when I look at you I think this must be it.”

As for the Homecoming After-Party, the quartet took turns DJing and playing a mix of early 2000’s & 80’s hits.“I need to see everyone dancing as soon as I play the next song,” says Lydia right before she blasts the last song of the night, Nelly Furtado’s iconic “Promiscuous.” To say the least, The Regrettes treated fans to an unforgettable night.
