There are only 21 points left up for grabs in Nashville SC’s first regular season in the USL, and three of them are on the line Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park. The 13th-place Tampa Bay Rowdies come to Nashville, buoyed by their strong showing in the first meeting between these two sides if not by their road form; Tampa’s road record is 3–8–2 on the year.

Which version of Nashville SC will we see? The one that put seven goals past Richmond Kickers and North Carolina FC, or the one that struggled to mount an attacking threat against Charlotte Independence and Bethlehem Steel?

Well, the fact that this one is at FTP bodes well for the former outcome. NSC is building a rather remarkable home-road split, with eight wins to just two losses at the friendly confines of First Tennessee (plus two more draws at Nissan Stadium).

What’s on the line for the Boys In Gold? A win moves them from their current Eastern Conference table position of ninth to no worse than seventh. (Moving into sixth place on goal difference is in play if they really start pouring on the goals.) With no other USL teams active on Tuesday, a loss or a draw keeps them in ninth. All of this is, of course, quite notable for the fact that eighth place is the cutoff line for determining who gets into the playoffs.

Injury report

“Nashville SC has upgraded winger Kris Tyrpak to questionable with his ankle injury,” the club said in a press release, “and winger Alan Winn has been added to the injury report as questionable this week with a hip injury.”
