Nashville has proven their financials are MLS ready. On Wednesday night they proved that their soccer is too.

Nashville Soccer Club has stunned the Colorado Rapids, knocking the MLS side out of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the fourth round of the competition with a 2–0 victory at Vanderbilt Football Stadium. Nashville’s goals weren’t the prettiest, but the Boys In Gold were the better team on the balance of play and deserved the result. NSC now moves on to the round of 16.

The opener came in the 38th minute when Justin Davis sent in a cross and an attempted sliding clearance from Rapids defender Michael Azira redirected the ball into the back of his own net. The game was put to bed in the 78th minute when Ropapa Mensah got his head on the end of a Liam Doyle cross and tucked the ball just inside the far post.

Nashville handed Colorado its seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions and kept is own hot streak going, as the Boys In Gold are undefeated in their last nine matches.

This is the first time Nashville has defeated an MLS team in any competition. NSC lost 3–1 to Atlanta United in a preseason friendly this February.

But Nashville can ill afford to rest on their laurels. On Saturday they travel down to Tampa Bay Rowdies, who are currently just two points back of NSC in eight place in the USC Eastern Conference Standings.
