In all of human experiences, poverty can play a negative role, often extinguishing the thought of hope and opportunity. However, music can be used as a “powerful instrument for change” (Grant). All genres, from hip hop to jazz, music of all languages can offer empowerment and a way out for those who are struggling in poverty. This essay looks at how music can have a positive effect on a person in poverty by using its abilities to educate, inspire, and elevate communities.
