I started my music writing career doing album reviews. After a while, album reviews can get stale, and the writer needs to find refreshing ways to comment and create a narrative critique of an album. If I’m lucky, album reviews can open me to a new dam of musical songs and albums.

Still, I’m more than okay with just doing an album review and leaving it there because I rarely feel the urge to pursue post-review exploration. Nevertheless, after listening to Plácido Domingo’s Christmas in Vienna series, I went on an unexpected adventure. Further, although I initially reviewed the album based on the illustrious album cover, I stayed far past the end of the review to look through a new door, the Christmas in Vienna album series.

Following this extraordinary discovery, I found several other album series in the discovery process. These music-mining pursuits lead me to today’s piece for you. For artists looking to streamline their branding, perhaps gain a more committed fanbase, or experiment with a new album concept, I am making a case for why you should adopt the album series model into your discographies.
