Heroic / Epic

This is a series to share music that inspires. Songs to create to. As it grows, the full collection will be found all in one place, right here. I hope you find they inspire you as well!

It’s day one of NaNoWriMo!

Excitement is in the air as everyone begins their sprint for 50,000 words. You’ve got a great idea! You have great characters! You’re 1,000 words ahead by noon and you feel like a goddamn hero!

Or maybe you’re not feeling so sure about this afterall…

Regardless of which camp you fall into, you may be in need of some music to psych yourself up!

Hiroyuki Sawano

THEMEX by Hiroyuki Sawano is used in the opening scenes of Xenoblade Chronicles X — a game with an incredible soundtrack that was sadly overlooked due its unfortunate placement on the failing Wii U.

The track titles are anything but inspirational, though tame by Sawano’s usual standards. His method for titling appears to involve everything from naming tracks after the dates and places he wrote them, to simply smashing his face on the keyboard and using whatever his forehead came up with. (See “ 凸】♀】♂】←巨人” from the Attack on Titan soundtrack. Yes, that is really the track’s title.)

Title weirdness aside, THEMEX is a chest-pounding hype train, thundering with vibes of a hero barrelling into their epic journey. It’s perfect for the opening scenes of your next space opera. Or real life opera. Or just reminding yourself that you’re a badass and you can do this!

Enjoy, and happy writing!
