Music ’n’ Brains is an industry event series designed to educate musicians and music business professionals. Think of it as your unofficial MBA in Music Business, based entirely on the experiences of other musicians and music professionals around us.

We have hosted two amazing events so far with Fena Gitu in September and Kanjii Mbugua in November. Fena left us with three gems: master your craft to world class standards, take time to build the right team and find brands that align with your values.

Kanjii had us thinking deeply about the big picture. Realise what stage you are at and allow yourself to crawl first, then walk, then jog, then run… then soar towards the future that you see for your career.

Our next event, on December 1st, features Polycarp Otieno, lead guitarist, composer, arranger and producer with afro-pop band, Sauti Sol. Polycarp has been part of the creation of all 3 Sauti Sol studio albums: Mwanzo (2008), Sol Filosofia (2011) and Live And Die In Afrika (2014).

In 2012, he worked with South African rapper/producer on the band’s self titled EP, Sauti Sol. He has produced music for Kenyan musicians, Suzanna Owiyo and Dela.

Polycarp recently launched his own guitar brand, Fancy Fingers. Guitars made in Kenya for young artists all over Africa. You can find his guitar tutorials on the Sauti Sol YouTube channel.

His all rounded perspective and experience in the music industry will make for fascinating conversation and will leave us with key insights, useful for our journeys ahead.

We host our events at Creatives Garage, a great place for artists from all walks of art to find resources, growth opportunities and support for their careers. Creatives Garage shares our mission to help artists build sustainable businesses. Stay updated on everything cool that happens out there: Creatives Garage FB.
