Have you compare what guitar or effects you want to buy and google the information ? Equipboard is a database of musical instrument , collecting the the general users’ comments of music gear. It is a very good UGC website.
The pages on the website can be divided into three kind of pages which are music gear pages, Equipboard pages and artist pages. Those pages connect the artist, users and musical gears together.
The Page of Music Gears
In addition to the basic introductions of the music gears, you can also see which artists own the gears and there are many comments by users. The comments can be expressed in words or videos. Those information is valuable for who want to buy the gear. You also can purchase the gear through the button of ebay in the page.
The category of gears in the website actually contains not only hardware devices (guitar, effects, MIDI Controller), even the VST Plugins used in the DAW. There are many categories for different musician.
Equipboard Page — Show Your Music Gear
After the registration, each user has its own page including your information like Soundcloud, Facebook and self-bio. You can display the photo of your musical instruments and the gears. The way of adding your gear in your Equipboard page is clicking the “Save” button in music gears’ pages.
Browsing anyone’s Equipboard page is also an opportunity to know a man who love music. You can follow a guy who you are interesting in.
Artist page —What Gears do the Pros Have?
In the artist’s page, you can see what gears does the artist have and each gear has its comments created by user. Based on the information we learn more about the artist.
Equipboard gives users the right to upload information. For example, if you see the Instagram showing a well-known guitarist in the concert using a guitar, you can upload the name of guitar and Instagram link to the artist’s page which makes the artist page more and more rich in content.
Homepage — Gathering the Comments
On the homepage, we can see the user’s new comments (reviews) and new instrument introduction (spotted). Comments and introduction is not necessarily correct, each user can make suggestions after reading the comments. In the footer of homepage, there are many great articles comparing with the same type of musical instruments, helping us to tell the advantages and disadvantages of music gear.
Incomplete Equipboards
In the upper right corner of the home page there is an “Incomplete Equipboards” button. Clicking on it and you will see many artists those who not have more than 5 music gear. The purposes of the section is inviting users to improve the artist’s information together.
Point System — The More Contributions, The More Power You Have
Each user can see their GearIQ in the upper right corner of the homepage, GearIQ is a point system established by Equipboard , the user gets points by commenting, uploading music photos etc., The user with higher GearIQ has more power to edit some of information like the introduction of artists.
Equipboard may becomes the business cards or a way of interacting with musicians. It is also a great UGC case for software service.
