Things That @AppleMusic Doesn’t Have (Yet) That @Rdio Does
I’m really enjoying Apple Music. Sure, it’s buggy; you can’t make a playlist reliably. But the curation is top-notch. And Beats1 is pretty good. In fact, the whole things seems to be focused on helping you find great music, in stark contrast to how the iTunes Music Store has traditionally been organized — its emphasis being top 40 pop music. I’ve already discovered a dozen or so great bands that I had never even heard of. And music discovery is one of my hobbies!
However, I’ll continue to be a hard-core @Rdio user until Apple adds these:
1. Chad FM (a single, customized station based on my favs and recent activity)
2. Friends!
3. Charts based on friend activity; this is the absolute best thing about @Rdio
4. Charts based on my activity
5. The ability to remotely control another instance of the app from the app. I use this all the time. I suppose iOS/watchos users have the remote app. But still.
6. Autoplay (when everything you’ve cued up has finished playing Rdio will play more music that’s similar to what you’ve been playing)
7. Play history — it’s convenient to be able to go back and see what you listened to recently, especially these days when it’s possible to blow through so much new music that you forget
I would love to see Rdio continue to thrive. But it’s hard to beat the library integration one gets from Apple Music.
