My Top YouTube Channels for New Music
YouTube has been my go-to platform for music after transitioning from that phase of downloading complete music albums during college.
I know. Why doesn’t this boomer have a Spotify account?
Anyway, my music taste has grown over the years and lately I’ve been discovering more new wave, dream pop, indie, indie pop, surf rock, lofi pop and bedroom artists who are growing apparent in the music scene.
So here are my top YouTube channels which offer my daily dose of bands, aesthetic album art and amazing visuals.
Nice Guys
This France-based channel features artists like Bane’s World, Moon Monsoon, Andy Shauf, Far Caspian, Summer Salt and my personal favorite, Jessie Blue with her single, Oranje Guice.
They have a collection of musical gems as well as an awesome livestream for non-stop listening to indie tunes. Such angels.
TheLazylazyme
This channel already resonated with me well just by reading the channel title. They feature a variety of artists like CASTLEBEAT, Goth Babe, Johnny Goth, Dayglow, VACATIONS, Gus Dupperton, Fazerdaze, Men I Trust and The Marias.
You can drown in good music all day by playing 1500+ videos. I’d say it’s worth it.
The Worst Taste
Ironically, they have the best taste in music. This is where I discovered Bahamas with their song All I’ve Ever Known. They have a good collection of songs to cry to or smile to if you feel like it. Their hand-picked cover art for each song also adds that final pinch of flavor to a perfect song experience.
STEEZYASFUCK
For a little twist, I’ve included this channel where you can listen to lofi hip hop beats non-stop through their livestreams. This US-based genius features beat tape albums from Jinsang and Kudasai, among others. Bless his soul for also including a compilation album of Justice Der’s guitar covers of Frank Ocean’s songs.
The Daily Dose
It is a very recent channel I’ve subscribed to. It features the best of artists like Feng Suave, Sunset Rollercoaster and others mentioned in the previous channels.
Aside from this, they also upload full albums and a must-listen to playlist. I’m very fond of their song choices and I’m completely looking forward for more. They’ve been uploading like crazy.
Just Some Videos
Now we move into the channels who took their music aesthetic to the next level. Just Some Videos is ran by a talented girl who incorporates scenes from films or series to more well-known songs by Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, Lorde, The Neighborhood and Mac Demarco.
If you are a Lana del Rey fan, there is a video for 13 Beaches by Lana Del Rey with scenes from the TV series, Skins. Makes you nostalgic for Freddie and Effy’s story.
Mermaid Motel
Here we have another Lana Del Rey fanatic. Lana’s lyrical masterpiece Mariner’s Apartment Complex was made a video with scenes from one of my favorite films, Before Sunrise. The scenes are beautifully edited to fit the music. I also got some really cool film titles to watch. It’s always pleasant to watch videos from Mermaid Hotel (which is actually a Lana Del Rey song too).
I’m cyborg but that’s ok
This cyborg has captured me but that’s ok.
What I love the most about this channel is its diverse music and taste for film. It has everything aesthetically pleasing about it. There is just so much depth and emotion embedded in each of cyborg’s creation.
In a video for Always On My Mind by Keaton Henson, scenes from the movie I, Origins were perfectly edited to match the lyrics resulting to this masterpiece of entangled rawness and beauty. It’s definitely worth checking out.
It’s always so satisfying to discover good music, knowing that other people from a different country or wherever are listening too and somehow we’re connected that way; ears, eyes and soul wide open.
