Captured by the keyboard
Sauvignon Blanc propelled
Unwilling, or unable
To step away

The white space calls to us
Needs to be filled
Back-lit keys
Beckon and blink

Pulling us in
Unable to resist
The urge, the need
To write

It’s a Heaven
It’s a Hell
It’s a pacifier
A tormentor

Stringing words together
To move ourselves
Maybe others
But mostly us

We read and reread
Edit and type
Search words that mean words
And words that rhyme

Why do we do it?
Why do we need?
We can checkout anytime we like
But we can never leave…

  • Of course, a line of lyric from “Hotel California,” originally performed by The Eagles
