Why did Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis, marry Michael Jackson? The most unexpected marriage in music history goes back to their first meeting in 1975 when she was seven (and he was 17).

The Lisa Marie/Michael marriage was reexamined when she died broken-hearted last week at age 54. Similarly, Jackson died in 2009 at age 50, just as their own larger-than-life role model, Elvis Presley, died in 1977 at age 42.

Lisa Marie once called her father’s Graceland estate a world “where time and rules didn’t exist.” That comment alone helps show how she’d wind up marrying an idol with a “Neverland Ranch” of his own.
