At Musixmatch we’re all about music. Over the past 11 years, we’ve built a community of millions of music fans and have helped to enhance the music experience of every major service in the field — from Spotify to Apple, Amazon, Shazam, Tidal from Instagram to Google.

But there wouldn’t be any music if it wasn’t for the artists, musicians and songwriters who create it. That’s why over the last year we’ve been focusing on creating more tools for creators. Now artists and songwriters — big and small — can claim their official profiles and manage how their lyrics show up on the various music services.

Going beyond lyrics

But our mission doesn’t stop here. While we are super excited that through Musixmatch, so many have decided to showcase their lyrics to billions of potential fans, we recognize that the music creators’ experience is still too fragmented.

Too many music creators go unrecognized

Music is more than just a performance. It’s the work that so many professionals put into it including songwriters, sound engineers, producers… and so many more. To this day, these collaborators are not publicly recognized, as the industry is missing an official and verified source for music credits.

Getting paid for royalties is unnecessarily complicated

In standard music business agreements, musicians earn royalties from their recordings, while songwriters earn through their copyrights. However, given the complexities of the global digital licensing landscape, in particular for smaller songwriters, it has become too onerous and expensive to track and trace royalties globally. As a result, the number of unpaid tracks keeps increasing.

Let’s face it: a lot of indie artists today are both songwriters and performers, so why do they have to have multiple places to claim their royalties? We think that there should be an easy solution for all of it.

Today we are announcing a new service from Musixmatch coming up in Q4 2021, aimed to provide a self-service platform for all music creators and professionals to verify music credits, claim and administrate copyrights, distribute music, and get paid.

We want to re-match the recording and publishing worlds through a single entry point.

Not only for songwriters, musicians and other types of creators, but also for their representatives, such as publishers, labels, and managers.

→ A one-stop-shop for distribution

Professional tools to verify and distribute music, lyrics, visual assets and related metadata.

→ The ultimate standard for music credits

Every music professional will be able to manage their personal online profile and claim credits for every song they have ever collaborated on. Credits will show up on Musixmatch websites and applications and will be made available through an API to all our partners (such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music and more).

→ Self-served royalty claiming and automated payments

Through the artist’s personal Wallet, with stats and royalty statements showing where the royalties and fans are coming from.
