Fiqh of Purification — Shaykh Hamood Aleem

An introductory course which aims to give students the opportunity to improve their understanding of the Islamic concept of Purification (Taharah) by covering actions such as wudu, ghusl, tayammum and more in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Fiqh of Prayer — Shaykh Hamood Aleem

An introductory course which aims to give students the opportunity to improve their understanding of Salat (Prayer). We will be covering the fundamentals of Salat as understood by the scholars of the Hanafi school in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

In this course, we cover the Salat according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace).

We also cover actions which precede the Salat, such as timings, adhan, iqama and preconditions, actions which are part of Salat itself and actions which are occasionally performed in Salat, such as the Sajdah Sahw and Sajdah Tilawah, among other important rulings, such as those in relation to the congregational prayer and the prayer of the traveller.

This course relies on the Mukhtasar of Imam Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Quduri al-Baghdadi (d.428AH). Mukhtasar al-Quduri is a well-accepted and celebrated manual of Islamic sacred law based on the Hanafi school. We cover portions from the Kitab al-Salat (Book of Prayer) of Mukhtasar al-Quduri.

Islamic Law for Seekers (Hanafi) (1) — Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

This is the first course in the Islamic Law (Hanafi) for Seekers series. The students will gain a necessary and detailed understanding of Islamic Jurisprudence (fiqh) related to the acts of worship, i.e. prayer, zakat, fasting, and the pilgrimage.

The course is based on Imam al-Mawsuli’s great primer on Hanafi fiqh, al-Mukhtar, and its commentary, al-Ikhtiyar li-Ta’lil Masa’il al-Mukhtar. This expansive course will cover all the chapters on worship in al-Mukhtar.

Fiqh of Zakat & Fasting — Shaykh Sikander Hashmi

An introductory course on the fiqh rulings of Zakat (obligatory charity) and Sawm (fasting) covering the fundamentals every Muslim should know about these important acts of worship. This course covers fiqh rulings according to the Hanafi school of jurisprudence. Taught in an easy to understand manner, touching upon contemporary issues pertaining to Zakat and Sawm, this course will enhance and enrich one’s understanding on these important topics.

This is the second course of the Islamic Law for Seekers (Hanafi) series and covers the fiqh of commercial transactions. Entering into the realm of transactions (mu‛amalat), this course furthers one’s knowledge into the most important topics required for a Muslim to know after the fiqh of worship. Students will learn details of the required knowledge for commercial transactions, including sales, leasing, or hire.

This is the third course in the Islamic Law (Hanafi) for Seekers series. The students will gain a necessary and detailed understanding of Islamic Jurisprudence (fiqh) related to the personal law (i.e. marriage, divorce, and related matters).

The course is based on Imam al-Mawsuli’s great primer on Hanafi fiqh, al-Mukhtar, and its commentary, al-Ikhtiyar li-Ta’lil Masa’il al-Mukhtar. This expansive course will cover all the chapters on personal law in al-Mukhtar.

Absolute Essentials of Islam: Basic Shafi’i Jurisprudence — Shaykh Jamir Meah

This course covers the fundamentals of the religion that all believers are obligated to know and practice: sound beliefs, valid purification and prayer, zakat, fasting, and the key principles related to purification of the soul according to the Shafi‘i school of Islamic Law. The course is based on Imam al-Habib Ahmad b. Zayn al-Habashi’s al-Risalah al-Jami’a.

The course is an explanation of a famous classical didactic text (matn) in Shafi‘i law by Qadi Ahmad ibn al-Husayn al-Asfahani (Abu Shuja). This course is well-suited for those who already know the absolute basics of Shafi‘i fiqh, but who are ready to further their knowledge.

This course is intended for all those who are seeking clarity in their faith and worship, according to the Mālikī school of law.

The text used in the course is ‘Abd al-Wāḥid Ibn ‘Āshir’s treatise, al-Murshid al-Mu‘īn, a classic primer in most traditional Mālikī fiqh curriculums, known not only for its unique exposition of both the outer and inner dimensions of worship, but also for its tremendous blessings.
