Are Rivers of Living Water Flowing Out of You?

The Holy Spirit can become a powerful force of spiritual growth in your life if you yield to Him. That’s a lesson I’m still learning day by day. The following passage from John 7:37–39 showed Jesus speaking about the coming Holy Spirit. At this time that Jesus spoke, he had not been crucified and then resurrected and glorified (ascended), so the Holy Spirit wasn’t given yet. Jesus was preparing the people for the coming of the Holy Spirit — a powerful force for sanctification in their life, after they would be justified through righteousness by Jesus’s death and resurrection.

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those [a]believing in Him would receive; for the [b]Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37–39, NKJV)
