Benefits of Drinking Green Tea

If you are a tea drinker and especially if you like to drink green tea, you’ll be happy to know that there are many health benefits to drinking green tea.

An interesting fact that I recently learned is that green tea may help to preserve your teeth. These findings came from a recent Japanese study which was published in Preventive Medicine. I heard that drinking green tea was linked to weight loss, but the idea that drinking it can help keep your teeth healthy is so interesting to me. Drinking green tea kills bacteria which cause plaque on your teeth. This prevents tooth decay.

According to an article in Better Nutrition from the June 2010 issue, 20,000 participants between ages 40–64 were in the study. Apparently, for the study participants who drank 1–2 cups of green tea each day, an 18% less risk of tooth loss or decay was seen. For the participants who drank more than five cups per day, they saw a 23% less risk of tooth decay.

Some of the benefits of drinking green tea are: it prevents Alzheimer’s, helps to protect vision, reduces your risk for heart disease, helps prevent some forms of cancer and also aids in weight loss.
