In a world where transient things are shifting and bending, the truth penned in 2 Corinthians 4:18 gives us a challenge on how to live, it says, โ€œWhile we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.โ€

โ€œTo see is to believeโ€ โ€” this is a common principle for some of us. If your circumstances seem long and heavy, youโ€™re looking at the wrong thing. To put it in another way, if all you see is what you see, then you do not see all there is to be seen! As far as โ€œthe things which are seenโ€ are concerned, they are not the goal of our existence.

Paul is not saying we must close our eyes to the reality of our suffering; heโ€™s saying โ€œlookโ€ฆ at the things which are not seenโ€. How could this be possible, to look at the unseen? How??? Itโ€™s by FAITH โ€” โ€œis the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seenโ€ (Hebrews 11:1). As believers, we are to โ€œโ€ฆwalk by faith, not by sight:โ€ (2 Corinthians 5:7)

2 Corinthians 5:7 is proof that we are absent from the Lord, Paul taught us that in its previous verse 6. We never see the Lord physically. Only through faith have we ever seen Him. Itโ€™s by Faith we believe that if we die today, we are to be โ€œabsent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.โ€ (v8)

FAITH is an affectionate practical confidence in the certainty of those things which God has declared (Websterโ€™s Dictionary). It is our assurance of things anticipated but not yet seen. As we navigate a world filled with uncertainties, faith becomes our unwavering anchor, grounding us in the promises of God.

We should not fix our eyes on the temporary life we see around us, but rather on the coming Life โ€” Jesus, our Lord (John 14:6). Donโ€™t look for a sign; we should be โ€œLooking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.โ€ (Hebrews 12:2)

Look unto Him, who endures all things on the cross for you and me! While every nail was driven into His hand, He must have been thinking about us. He endured the stripes of rejecting men! He endured the spit and shame! He endured to be โ€œwounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with his stripes we are healed.โ€ (Isaiah 53:5)

If we canโ€™t remember what He did in the cross at Calvary, if all we see are the difficulties, trials, sorrow, and painful circumstances in our lives today, we will not be healed, instead, โ€œSet your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.โ€ (Colossians 3:2)

Brethren, in our quest for the unseen, we find the importance of our faith in Jesus Christ. He is the Alpha and Omega, the eternal Word made flesh (John 1:14). As we fix our eyes on Him, we are looking to the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). May we live by faith beyond the seen.

Always Begin With Godโ€ฆ
