Dealing With Hurt: The Healing Process
Overcoming Heartbreaks, A Worthy Long Read.
Jesus wept.
-John 11 : 35
No one wants to get hurt. No one likes dealing with a heartbreak. No one likes being rejected or expressing love and not getting it in return. I think we’ve all been at that point in our lives where we get consumed by emotions, where we can’t seem to think correctly and just let go of a love interest.
It can be quite stressful. Emotions need to be handled with intelligence and maturity, but somehow, the intelligence and maturity just seem to disappear during that period it’s needed the most. Right?
One thing that should guide us through life, is the assurance that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that we go through in life, has been addressed in the Bible and has a solution.
How you handle your emotions matter: Three scenarios
After Judas betrayed Jesus, he was also hurting and grieving. He couldn’t stand what he did because somehow, he also loved Jesus and didn’t mean for him to be killed. Emotions got the best of Judas, he succumbed and committed suicide.
However, what Peter did with his emotions, after he betrayed Jesus by denying him three times was different. Peter realized his error, he gave in to his emotions and cried bitterly to God, he pleaded for mercy. Hence, he was forgiven.
It is good to know that Jesus also experienced the loss of a loved one, Lazarus. He felt the pain so dearly, that he wept. Yes, Jesus gave in to his emotions, and he wept. But what did he do after? he wiped his tears and used the power he had to raise his friend from the dead.
Dealing With Heartbreaks/Offence
It is okay to cry, let it all out, please. Yes, you were treated badly, your love wasn’t reciprocated, you gave so much and received the bare minimum, it might have even been your first love or relationship.
Your feelings are valid. Don’t hold back, feel the hurt as much as you can, weep, and let the tears flow. But what do you do after that? you wipe those tears and take back your power. You let go completely, without holding any fragment back.
Why? Like T.D. Jakes said,
“let them go. You can no longer continue to grieve about who walked away, who abandoned you, who forsook you, who left you. You’ve got to stand up and realize that God doesn’t need anything that you’ve lost to bless you, God will always use what you’ve got left”
Whoever leaves you, was not meant to be in your life in the first place. Whoever leaves you, was never chosen by God, whoever does not see your worth, does not deserve a special place in your life.
The best part of Judas’ betrayal, was that he was replaced with Saint Matthias who did greater works than him. There is always a replacement.
How The Devil Benefits From Your Hurt
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
-Matthew 26 : 41
I will always expose the trick of the devil, because it is in knowing your enemies’ plans that you become more powerful than him.
When the devil wants to destroy a man or prevent him from attaining a new season and divine repositioning, he uses two weapons: hurt/offence and anger.
The devil knows that the human tendency to feel hurt is high. Do you know that offence is a spirit? Life is 100% spiritual.
What he does, because he sees that you are already vulnerable, is to release the spirit of offence which manifests by keeping you focused on your wound or heartbreak, thinking about how you are human and don’t deserve to be treated that way, making you overthink how different the situation could have turned out, and this eventually leads to two things.
Firstly, as a result of hurt, you either develop internal rage and categorize everyone as unworthy of love, so you have a goal to revenge and hurt as many people as you can, in a bid to dwindle your human nature (forgetting that we will always be human).
The devil is happy, in fact, excited, because you have fallen into his trap and now you are living in hatred and resentment (which is disobeying God’s commandment to love everyone) and ultimately, your prayers can be HINDERED.
Once you start living in hatred, a crack in your soul is created, and it becomes easy for you to be controlled, manipulated to make drastic decisions, and eventually afflicted by the devil. That is all the devil is after, to destroy as many believers as he can, and he would use anything and ANYONE. He will WAIT for as long as he can.
Secondly, the spirit of depression is released to keep you chronically depressed. Such that you cannot see the beauty of life again. You keep thinking the world will be a better place without you. You lose interest in everything that is important. You become prayerless, giving more room for the devil to attack your soul.
That is why you need to always WATCH and PRAY. The spiritual, CONTROLS the physical.
Why you need to heal
You need to heal, to take back your power. You need to heal to see things differently as Pastor Jerry says in this video. The journey to healing cannot be completed in a day, it takes a while. Everything takes time, give it time, while praying regularly, will you?
You can pray this simple prayer:
Lord Jesus, it is written, “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Today, I’ve come to your throne of mercy, vulnerable, because I know that you partner with my weakness to make it a strength. Lord, please heal every heartbreak/hurt the devil is using to hold me back, expose any truth that you want me to know about this situation, and set me free from every Spirit of offence in Jesus’ name. Amen
Also, if you have not given your life to Christ. I implore you to do so today, so that the blood of Jesus will speak for you, making you a new creation. Kindly say this after me:
Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the Cross of Calvary for my sins and that you love me dearly. Today I confess that you are my Lord and personal Savior. I surrender my life, body, soul, and spirit to you as I invite you to come and dwell in my heart. I confess and forsake every sin hindering me from experiencing your saving grace (mention the sin). Please accept me today, and make me free from the grip of death, hell, and sin. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Congratulations! on joining the body of Christ. Please find and start attending a Bible-believing church around you.
I pray that the Lord will mend every broken heart and break us free from the spirit of offence in Jesus’ name.
