Instigator

Lyon was a nice guy, friendly to those around him, an all-around good guy, as we say.
One day, on a walk with Kevin, his closest friend, someone bumped into him. Lyon was ready to forgive him, even if he didn’t apologize. However, the opposing party wasn’t particularly apologetic. He scowled grievously at Lyon and proceeded to walk away. Bygones ready to be bygones.

Then Kevin yelled, “How dare you? How dare you disrespect my friend?” “Lyon, are you gonna let him go like that? After he openly humiliated you? In front of all these people? All these people?” he protested, pointing to everyone around.

Lyon, who was ever ready to forgive, wants blood because he’s been mad to realize he was horribly humiliated. Now, he feels he has to do something about it.

Hype Man

Let’s say Lyon wasn’t in a good mood that day and wasn’t ready to forgive. “Dude!” He exclaims, expecting an apology, but it never came. “You didn’t even say sorry. Don’t you have manners?” he said to patronize the culprit. He had let out his frustration and was ready to let it go.

Then Kevin chips in, “Do you know who this man is? He could knock you out in a heartbeat? You better apologize before my Bro here teaches you some manners?”

Upon hearing this, Lyon’s image of himself is inflated and he’s no more ready to let this end without an apology. The second party has made it clear he’s not giving one. Eventually, a brawl ensues.

See the difference yet?
Correct. There isn’t one.

They are all devices of the devil.

Let’s shortly get into it.

A Hype Man is a flatterer. One who puffs you up with compliments bigger than your shoe size. You can't walk in those (Informal Definition).

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29:5‭-‬6‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
[5] A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his own feet. [6] In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous man sings and rejoices.

Flattery will always lead you to compromise.

You will end up doing things you never planned to do because someone set you a match above your weight class.

You'll find instigators the same. Only, instead of flattery they use anger.

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:26‭-‬27‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
[26] When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. [27] Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].

The devil uses anger and flattery to cause us to do things we would normally never even think of doing as Christians.

We have to be aware of this so as not to give him any opportunities.

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
[18] And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. [Prov. 23:20.]

These two, anger and flattery, intoxicate the unsuspecting. Let us beware of them.

As my Pastor always says, "We establish patterns from Genesis." So let's check it out:

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:4‭-‬5‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
[4] But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, [II Cor. 11:3.] [5] For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.

The devil created offense in the woman. Insinuating God had been hiding some goodies from them brought anger toward God.

He also flattered her by saying, "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God".

He deceived her into thinking she had something good in herself apart from God. That is flattery, insincere praise. Hype.

The devil always wants to create divisions in the body of Christ using these two, because he knows we are stronger together than apart.

Let us be ALERT, so we don't prey to his schemes. Always turning the other Cheek and praying for one another.

Glory To God.

I hope this Blessed you.
