The context here is Jesus is teaching his disciples the signs of the return of Jesus. The timer of the return of Jesus is known only to the Father God not even Jesus.

This raises a curious question…

How is it that the Son does not know?

Isn’t the Son, Jesus, the second person in the Trinity, who is God himself, the all knowing, all powerful, all wise God? How is it that Jesus is unable to figure it out?

We can be assured that Jesus is not any less than the Father or the Holy Spirit. The only possibility is that the Son has decided not to pry into the date the father has chosen. Jesus mighty have all the resources at his disposal to find out but based on what the Trinity had decided he will not ask nor spend time trying to guess.

Sinful nature of man finds it difficult to come to terms with the fact that something is withheld from us what we think is rightfully ours to claim. We feel it’s a breach of trust that a near and dear one does not wish to share with us some of the information they have but does not wish to divulge them to us. This sometimes is difficult among spouses when there is trust deficit.

We need to learn from God himself how it is legitimate to withhold information from among the God head and that reach person of Trinity trusts the other with the lack of information at their end and there is no effort to try to pry.

This attribute of God deciding not to pry is also seen when God decides to forgive sins. God sets the sins aside and decides to never bring it up. The information is at his disposal but does not go back and regurgitate only to nurse the wound. All of these are the schemes of the evil one. We ought also to forgive and forget like how God does.
