The Rapture And The Bible
IS THE RAPTURE BIBLICAL? A BIBLE STUDY
I must confess although I believe in the Rapture, I thought the word had been made up by somebody and come into popular use. That is not the case. The Greek word for caught up is harpagēsometha which means
to seize, snatch, obtain by robbery. From a derivative of haireomai; to seize. The Vulgate, the Latin Bible, uses the word Rapturo which again means caught up. The English translation of Rapturo is Rapture. Iesus in the Latin is translated Jesus in English. Here is the New Testaments description of the Rapture.
1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
The return of the Lord Jesus could be described as being in two parts. The verse above describes the first part. Christians go up to meet the Lord in the air. At this time Jesus meets the Christians in the air. He does not return to the earth. I have used Dr. David Jeremiah’s comments to describe these events. https://www.davidjeremiah.org
