Why I am in love with The Shawshank Redemption?
I can’t help you if you haven’t watched this movie. Based on the Stephen King novel Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, it truly deserves to be the top-rated movie at IMDb and stand as an all-time classic. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman have given outstanding performances which enhance the overall impact of the movie.
One of the best things I love about the movie and learned from it is the awareness of Andy Dufresne about the opportunities around him. He always stays inspired for living his life and never loses hope. The movie shows adverse circumstances for Andy Dufresne again and again and how he is able to find positives everywhere, how he is always a gold-digger and “comes out clean”. His attitude towards life is something we should all incorporate into our lives as well. He loved his wife and she was dead and he was charged with a murder he didn’t commit and still, he managed to overcome overbearing authorities and redeemed himself from the Shawshank prison. The whole scene where he escapes from the jail still jumbles up the emotions inside me whenever I think about it. He escaped from the jail but in a very positive way. He sets an example of how hope can overcome any obstacle you can imagine in your life. No matter how worse life gets, there is always another side of the river where you can row your boat of life and live happily.
Another gem from this movie was the character of Morgan Freeman known as “Red”. His narration gives life and soul to the movie and captivated me till the end. The scene of his parole’s approval still gives me goosebumps. The way he came into Andy’s life and how he identified him in the crowd showed his uniqueness among the other prisoners. He always had a different way of doing things, a keen observation and an all-time availability for fellow inmates. His character was filled with compassion and love which never diminished during his tenure in Shawshank. What I loved the most is how he learned to hope in life from Andy. He had almost given up on his parole, his life and dedicated his life fully to Shawshank but he learned that hope is a good thing and life can be better. And his life does get the best with Andy in and after Shawshank.
There were many more things in the movie I loved like Brooks, the library of Shawshank, the cleverness of Andy, the confirmation of the innocence of Andy in his wife’s murder case and the mystery of Rita Hayworth posters!
