APPLE CIDER VINEGAR RINSE

One of the many benefits of making your own hair products is that you will find you already have most of the ingredients lurking around your home and compared to commercially sold products you can design something at a fraction of the cost. We are going to look at Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and how it can be a part of your hair care routine.
ACV is the fermentation of apples which contain nutrients which are left in the unfiltered vinegar. It is advised to purchase organic / unfiltered vinegar, you will recognize the difference as these tend to be cloudy with sediment floating around the bottom. These nutrients will keep your scalp at its natural PH balance and protect against bacterial and fungal infections. In addition, it will remove the build up of gels and other hair styling products and add a gentle glow with luster to your hair. Regular use of ACV will detangle and improve porosity of hair as it smooths out and seals the cuticles for shine and the reduction of split ends. ACV has benefits for all hair types with its raw enzyme proteins that increase the strengthening activity in making your hair stronger.

WHAT YOU’LL NEEDED

1 Plastic bottle
2 to 4 tb spoons of raw apple cider vinegar
8 oz to 18 oz of cool water
1–2 drops of lavender (optional for fragrance)

For Dry hair use less acv
For Oily hair use more acv

Pour water into plastic container with cap. Add the ACV and shake it well.
Wash hair as usual with a sulphate free shampoo, then towel dry and pour the ACV mix onto your scalp wetting the entire length of hair avoiding eye contact. Once your hair is soaked, leave it on for 2 or 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. No need to panic as your hair will not smell of vinegar. If needed you can apply cream conditioner to the ends of your hair to improve the appearance but there shouldn’t be much need to re-condition in general as the ACV will sufficiently condition your hair and with continuous use at least twice a month there should be a noticeable an improvement of the condition of your hair.

ESSENTIAL OIL VINEGAR HAIR RINSE

WHAT YOU’LL NEEDED

5 drops of your favorite Essential oil (Lavender /Lemon /Rosemary /Sage)
1 cup / 250ml of apple cider vinegar

Pour the ACV into a plastic bottle and add 5 drops of chosen oil, leave it to settle for a while.
When ready to rinse hair add 1 tb spoon of this mixture to 1 cup / 250ml of warm water.
Shampoo hair as usual then apply the ACV mixture to roots and soak your entire head, leave it in for 2 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

WARNING
Essential oils should be used with caution as some are fairly strong and can irritate the scalp. It is advised not to purchase the cheaper synthetic oils and go for the essential, more costly, and high in quality oils.
