Pivot & Focus

This week we made a big decision to focus in on the events part of our service rather than trying to compete with existing services like eventbrite. This required some refactoring of our value flow map and a simplification of our business structure. We also continued to refine our touchpoints and service blueprint. The end result is a service which is much more compelling and interesting that provides a clear value to the customers.

The week started with a fun visit to a local Jam session. We wanted to see how they exist today and what we could learn from the musicians there.

We also created an updated version of our presentation with our new service proposition.

To build a community of artists by enabling discovery of like-minded musicians through music events

We also began to build our service blueprint for that presentation.

And we created a user journey map for a jam session based on our prototyping work. This served as the basis for helping us define what our open mic nights and workshops would look like as well.

PIVOT

We got a lot of really fantastic feedback from our quick session on Tuesday and began a pivot to cut the part of our service that helped match musicians with other local music events. It didn’t have a unique value proposition and added a lot of unnecessary bulk to our service which hurt the other parts.

The first step after we decided to make this cut was to create a new value flow diagram.

This helped us understand what assumptions we still were making and that we needed to validate. We decided to do more work to evaluate our business model, determine subscription cost, the user density and venue possibilities.

You can check out some of the results of that research here: (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1npcXA6QsRkrReYWwfSg0YEvptNYoFgr7KttPX_OmjQk/edit?usp=sharing)

We also created and have started distributing a survey to determine the price people would be willing to pay for our service and although we’re still developing a large enough data set preliminary results seem to fit well with our business model. Our monthly subscription seems to be zeroing in at around $25 which gets you access to several events and workshops..

Finally on Friday we began to develop our script for the video, centering the narrative on two musicians in Pittsburgh who become friends through the service. Today we just discussed preliminary ideas and will be writing a script for sunday.

Service Blueprint

We have overhauled our service blueprint and would love some feedback if you get a chance. It is in a google sheet for now and is a little hard to read unless you set the view to 75% but we feel the content is pretty solid.
