Summer in New York

I think it’s awesome that our topic is on mental wellness. I’ve been thinking about how to be more mindful and what techniques I can learn or do in order to be at a better mental state. Talking to research professionals and many other people on how to deal with stress has been very helpful in thinking about my own life.

I signed up for my first guided meditation session yesterday!

MEDITATION

Week 4 has been a whirlwind. In the past few days 6 interviews were completed, multiple synthesis sessions were held, and sketching began.

There are a lot of things going on this week, and I’ve definitely been feeling the amount of work pick up. In between meetings, I’m always thinking about how we can find more people to interview and what the product will turn out to be.

Retrospective

At the beginning of the week, we had a group retrospective in order to sort through all the things that were good and bad up from the first week until the workshop.

Retrospective board

It’s easy to let things go if we don’t talk about it, or have a chance to bring it up. I think the retrospective was an opportunity to be honest about the things that were not going very well or had not gone well.

Narrowing down our audience

We’ve narrowed down our audience to…

Young Adults!!!

This came down to a multitude of reasons. Many people we interviewed were young adults and we knew the space a lot better. In thinking about the future and talking to people, it seemed like we could get more insights from young adults by proximity of our network.

Synthesis

After the interviews, we took the information that gave us insights into habits, coping mechanisms, solutions, and stigma in general about mental health and mapped organized into categories.

This helped inform our hypotheses for each category and think about what we should be building.

Paper sketches

After our sketch session, we started drawing paper sketches. Thank you Sherry for drawing a ton of sketches! We’ve been going through ideas, and I think it’s best to keep on coming up with a lot of ideas — good and bad.

Next steps

  1. Continuing to recruit people to speak with. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
  2. Nailing down our ideas. Also a lot of work.
